The Coaching Staff

 

Gregg Klein – Varsity Head Coach

Coaching Experience:
Head Coach, Gregg Klein, has 11 years of previous coaching experience at the high school level. Most recently, he was a member of the coaching staff for the Centerville Women’s soccer program. This will be Coach Klein’s 1st year at Fairmont. Coach Klein has also been a head coach at the club level and has been privately training soccer players of both genders in the Dayton area since 1993.

Playing Experience:
Coach Klein was a 4-year starting Varsity player for Madison High School in the Greater Cleveland Area where he was a captain both his junior and senior years. While in high school, Coach Klein was selected to play on a national all-star team and traveled Europe to compete against club teams in Holland, Belgium and England. Coach Klein continued his soccer playing career after high school by being recruited to play at Wright State University. After winning a starting position at the end his freshman year, his college soccer playing was cut short with a career-ending knee injury.
Coach Klein is currently an advanced math teacher at Centerville High School just completing his 20th year. He is married to Kathy Klein and has 3 children: Dominic, Emily and Nathan.

Jonathon Soto – Varsity Assistant

Coaching Experience:
Jonathon Soto has been coaching the Ohio Fusion 05 girls team for two years where he has taken a team that was previously ranked 108 in Southern Ohio in 2017 to ranked 30th according to the GotSoccer rankings in 2019. This will be coach Soto’s first year as an assistant Varsity coach with Fairmont.

Playing Experience:
Coach Soto is a former player of the Metro 92 Rapids, ISC Storm, and Miamisburg High School. As the team’s stopper, he was nicknamed the “Brick Wall” and “Paint Scraper” due to his physical play and ability to do whatever it took to win the ball. He achieved accomplishments such as the JV Viking Award (2008), GWOC Special Mention (2009,2010), Varsity Viking Award (2010), Viking Soccer Booster Scholarship winner for the characteristics and leadership coaches want players to display on and off the field (2010), and help lead in bringing the high school’s first and so far only GWOC Conference Championship in 2009.
He currently continues to play the game he loves in the Dayton SOASA Division 1 men’s competitive league on Miami Valley FC with other former college and high school players and works in Physical Therapy at Heartland of Centerville, Bethany Village, and Dayton Children’s.

Matt Jones – JV Head Coach

Coaching Experience: 

Matt brings five years of high school level select soccer head coach experience to the program, consisting of four years at Dayton United and one year as co-founder of his own U19 club, Dayton Dynasty.  He also was an Assistant Coach for the Men’s U19 Dayton Dynasty team the same season he coached the Women’s team.

Matt is in his fourth season as JV-Head Coach of the Fairmont Firebirds Women’s soccer team, along with being an Assistant Coach to the Varsity squad each season.

Playing Experience: 

Matt has been around soccer his entire life, growing up playing in several local soccer programs.  He played all four years at Beavercreek High School and was a member of the G.W.O.C. Championship team in the 2002-2003 season. After high school Matt continued playing soccer in the Dayton Amateur League for 3 seasons.  He continued playing on several other teams, indoor and outdoor, through high school, college, and beyond.

After high school Matt attended and graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor’s degree.  He moved to the Great city of Kettering at the end of 2016.  He is married to Michelle Jones and has a one year old son, Elliott.

Adrenna Hernandez – Goalkeeper Coach

Adrenna Hernandez hails from Powell, Ohio. In her youth, Adrenna played club soccer and basketball. Adrenna attended Worthington Kilbourne High School, where she played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. After high school, she attended DePauw University, playing goalkeeper for four years. Adrenna joined the Firebird Family last season as the junior varsity assistant coach as well as the assistant varsity coach of the women’s lacrosse team. She is married to Steven Hernandez, who is an avid sports fan and coach. They also have a two year-old daughter named Harper.
