For the offensive end, WE WILL say,
· “Beat Her,” when we think teammates should take on and beat a defender by
· “Hit it,” when we think teammates should shoot the ball.
· “Feet,” when we are open and want the ball played to feet.
· “Hold,” when we want teammates to hold the ball because an offensive runner is
coming on an overlapping run for a through ball.
· “Leave,” when we want teammates to leave a ball for the second teammate
· “Man” or “Man on,” when our teammate has pressure and needs to shield or
release the ball.
· “Switch” or “Swing,” when we have an opportunity to switch the point of attack
passing through teammates or sending a long through ball.
· “Take it,” when think teammates should attack forward aggressively into the
· “Through,” when we want to receive a pass into open space behind a defender.
· “Time,” when teammates have time to take a touch or control the ball.
· “Turn,” when teammates have time to turn in the opposite direction, up the field,
or open up and receive the ball across the body.
For the defensive end, WE WILL say,
· “Away,” when we want teammates to clear the ball immediately out of danger. It
may be up the field or out of bounds.
· “Double,” when we want teammates to double-team an opponent.
· “Drop it,” when we want a teammates to make a backwards pass to an open
· “Drop,” when we want teammates to drop back into position to cover gaps or
· “Force inside or outside,” when we want teammates to force an opponent in a
· “Home,” when we want teammates to pass the ball back to the keeper.
· “Keeper,” when we want the keeper to claim the ball.
· “Mark Up,” when we want teammates to mark-up attacking players in transition,
set pieces, or in the back two thirds.
· “Pressure,” when we want teammates to quickly press an oncoming attacker
because we have good position to support and cover them
· “Runner,” when an attacking runner is entering the space of a teammate and
needs to be marked up.
· “Shift,” when we need to shift position left or right to cover gaps or switching
· “Step,” when we want teammates to step forward to press the opposition or close
down gaps in our team formation.
